into a sticky fairy floss sunset.
Cars moving along the far side of the bay
paint light stripes on the water,
flickering white, red and amber ghosts.
A woman taking a break from her evening jog
looks my way, then starts running
towards the ribbon of pink, stretched under a quarter moon
and over the dark cut out shapes of trees and buildings.
I turn to the rival acacia blue sky,
dotted with squawking birds. A siren joins them
as I start walking again, straight through the loudest sounds.
